Tussen Tompouce en Baklava is a multidisciplinary project that centers on the stories of the first generation of Turkish guest workers.
Together with the City of Amsterdam, Studio Batman explored the meaning and support for a memorial honoring the migrant workers who helped shape the city from the 1960s onwards.

Binnen het kader van food-design recontextualiseert Studio Batman, de twee meest bekende delicatessen uit beide culturen, de tompouce en de baklava, tot een synthese waarin beide culturen op gelijkwaardige wijze worden gerepresenteerd en samengebracht.

Studio Batman is an interdisciplinary art and architecture practice founded and led by architect and artist Emin Batman. The studio works across photography, film, scenography and architecture, exploring themes of identity, migration, interculturality and spirituality. At the heart of our practice is a commitment to connecting people from different cultures and celebrating shared values through artistic and spatial interventions.
Our projects include Memento Diem (2023), a video installation reflecting on the earthquake in Türkiye, and House of All(2023), an architectural concept inspired by the coexistence of a mosque, church and synagogue. Both projects were exhibited at the Van Gogh Museum. De Monoliet (2025) marked our first scenography project, developed for Sadettin Kırmızıyüz's solo performance FIRST MAN, exploring the relationship between space and light. In the solo exhibition Tussen Tompouce en Baklava (2025) at the Van Eesteren Museum, Studio Batman introduced an architectural language inspired by Baklouceism. Until 1 November 2026, our work can also be seen at Escher in Het Paleis in the group exhibition Escher & Islamic Art: 20 Perspectives.
Alongside our artistic practice, Studio Batman contributes to the wider cultural field through research, public engagement and institutional collaborations. Founder Emin Batman also serves as an Amsterdam Art Ambassador, a member of the ARCAM Programme Council and director of the House of All Foundation.

FIRST MAN, Scenography
For FIRST MAN, Sadettin Kırmızıyüz’s solo performance about fatherhood, migration, identity and the future, Studio Batman designed a scenography where earth and space meet.
A monolith forms the heart of the set. Through movement and light, the object continuously transforms its meaning. A minimal intervention creates a dynamic world where light, space, performance and sound come together.
A scenography that activates the imagination and supports the emotional journey of FIRST MAN.
