FIRST MAN - Scenography
FIRST MAN is a solo performance by Sadettin Kırmızıyüz that reflects on fatherhood, migration, identity, and the future through the lens of superhero mythology and contemporary politics. Moving between reality and imagination, the performance asks what kind of world we leave behind for the next generation. Studio Batman was commissioned to develop the scenography for the production, translating these themes into a single architectural gesture inspired by the relationship between earth and space.
The stage design centres around a monolith that transforms through only two interventions: movement and light. As the object slowly rotates and the intensity of the light changes, it continuously shifts in meaning, creating an ever-changing landscape without altering the stage itself. We believe that light and scenography are inseparable, working together with performance, sound, and movement to shape the audience's experience. The result is a minimal yet powerful scenography that leaves space for imagination while supporting the emotional journey of FIRST MAN as it tours theatres across the Netherlands.
