New Meervaart

Studio Batman is part of the multidisciplinary design team led by VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism for the competition for the New Meervaart theatre and the redevelopment of the southwestern shoreline of the Sloterplas. Together with White Arkitekter, Bureau Buhrs, DS Landschapsarchitecten, schlaich bergermann partner (sbp) and Aveco de Bondt, the team is developing an integrated design vision for a new cultural hub in Amsterdam Nieuw-West.
 

The competition focuses on the design of a new cultural venue and the redevelopment of the surrounding public space along the Sloterplas, treating architecture, landscape and public space as one cohesive cultural zone. The project brings together theatre, talent development, recreation and public gathering in a future-oriented place for both the local community and the city as a whole.
 

Within the design team, Studio Batman contributes an interdisciplinary perspective in which (interior) architecture, art and participation converge. Through this approach, we contribute to the conceptual development and spatial vision, with particular attention to the cultural identity of Nieuw-West, the significance of public space, and the relationship between the building, its users and the surrounding community.
